European ETF assets reach new record high

ETF data provider, ETFGI, reports that assets invested in ETFs/ETPs listed in Europe reached a new record of USD686 billion at the end of the first half of 2017.

The firm found that at the end of June 2017, the European ETF/ETP industry had 2,286 ETFs/ETPs, with 7,227 listings, assets of USD686 billion, from 60 providers listed on 27 exchanges in 22 countries.

ETFs and ETPs listed in Europe gathered net inflows of USD10.61 billion in June marking the 34th month of consecutive net inflows. Year to date, net inflows stand at record level of USD63.85 billion which is significantly above the USD22.57 billion at this point last year and significantly above the USD55.69 billion gathered in all of 2016.

Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered net inflows of USD4.58 billion in June, bringing year to date net inflows to a record level of USD36.85 billion, which is, the company points out, significantly greater than the net outflows of USD3.98 billion over the same period last year.

Fixed income ETFs and ETPs experienced a record level of USD4.64 billion in net inflows in June, growing year to date net inflows to USD17.05 billion, which is slightly less than the same period last year which saw net inflows of USD17.67 billion.

Commodity ETFs/ETPs accumulated net inflows of USD672 million in June. Year to date, net inflows are at USD6.95 billion, compared to net inflows of USD7.53 billion over the same period last year.

iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows in June with USD3.30 billion, followed by Xtrackers with USD1.44 billion and Lyxor AM with USD1.38 billion net inflows.
YTD, iShares gathered the largest net ETF/ETP inflows YTD with USD19.58 billion, followed by Lyxor AM with USD7.70 billion and UBS ETFs with USD7.50 billion net inflows.
