Tokyo Stock Exchange ETF market hits record high in January

The Tokyo Stock Exchange’s exchange-traded fund and exchange-traded note market reached a new average daily volume high of JPY146bn in January.

Monthly trading value was JPY2.77trn, staying close to last month's high.
 
Next Funds Nikkei 225 Leveraged Index Exchange Traded Fund accounted for the majority of the trading value. Topix Bull 2x ETF also saw growing activity.
 
There were two new ETFs tracking the JPX-Nikkei Index 400 added to the market on 28 January. Next Funds JPX-Nikkei Index 400 Exchange Traded Fund and Listed Index Fund JPX-Nikkei 400 both got off to a smooth start. The former ranked 18th in monthly trading value despite being traded for only four days while the latter came in at 25th in the rankings.
