
US ETP market sees another USD6.7bn in inflows last week

US ETPs saw another strong week of inflows last week taking the YTD cash flow figure to almost USD29bn. according to figures released by Deutsche Bank. The total US ETP flows from all products registered USD6.7bn of inflows during last week vs USD10.0bn of inflows the previous week, setting the YTD weekly flows average at +USD7.2bn.
ETP markets experienced positive flows across all asset classes, with the exception of Currency, during last week. Equity, Fixed Income, and Commodity ETPs all experienced strong flows of +USD3.4bn, +USD2.5bn, and +USD1.2bn last week vs. +USD8.1bn, +USD1.6bn, and +USD0.3bn the previous week, respectively. Within Equity ETPs, Emerging Markets regional products experienced the largest inflows (+USD1.5bn), followed by Mid Cap ETPs (+USD0.7bn); while Leveraged vehicles experienced the largest outflows (-USD0.5bn). Within Fixed Income ETPs, Corporate products experienced the largest inflows (+USD1.8bn) followed by Sovereign ETPs (+0.4bn). Within Commodity ETPs, Precious Metals products recorded the largest inflows (+USD1.0bn).
Total weekly turnover rose by 37.6% to USD304bn vs. USD221bn in the previous week, still about 11% down from last year’s weekly average of USD341bn. The largest increase was on Equity ETP turnover, which climbed by USD68.3bn or 35.3% to USD262bn. Fixed Income and Commodity ETP turnover followed with a hike of 27.2% (+USD3.5bn) and 79.2% (+USD10.1bn), respectively.
Last week, total ETP assets increased by 2.0% to USD1.14 trillion, driven by positive markets and sturdy inflows. Assets for equity, fixed income and commodity ETPs moved +USD12.4bn, +USD4.1bn, and +USD6.3bn during last week, respectively. As of last Friday, total assets had grown by 8.7% or USD91bn YTD.
There were nine new ETFs listed during the previous week. Seven of them were the first to be listed in the BATS exchange. The new funds offer additional access to Developed Market countries with broad or size exposure, German debt, and active international equity strategy.
